Test planning
Test Planning is the process of effectively organizing the
testing activities for all the components associated with a technology solution
.The activities which are covered under test planning are
• Test plan
• Test strategy
• Test environment
• Test approach
• Test Schedule
Test plan
The test plan is a document describing the scope, approach,
resources and schedule of intended testing activities. Importance of the test
plan is in the fact that testing is a complex process and it is important to
identify, reveal the defects, and bring software to acceptable quality and
being efficient in budget and scheduling activities.
Levels of Test Plan
Test strategy
The scope, objective and resource requirement for the
project are analyzed to decide the testing activities .Depending on the options
selected the level and complexity of testing is decided. The options include
the factors like technology and components included.
Test environment
The test
environment is based on the project which further depends on the needs of the
Components. It consists of elements which support test execution when
configured .Test Environment is a mini prototype for the actual working
environment, which further helps in uncovering the configuration related issues.
Test Approach
Testing approach is something which changes with in
accordance with the technology and testing activities .Defining the Test
approach it is a repeatedly changing process which changes as the project
advances. The Testing approach which is defined at the beginning defines the
approach for defining the test design, test data, testing priorities, and Test
results
Test Schedule
A test schedule includes the testing steps or tasks, the
target start and end dates, and responsibilities. It also describes how the
test will be reviewed, tracked, and approved. A high-level schedule, based on
the initial scope, objectives, and resource requirements, is also defined. In
addition, the assignment of resources and responsibilities to roles and activities
is outlined
